Elle Fanning, kid sister of Dakota, demonstrates a darker, sexier side in two new roles. She is a twisted seductress of Colin Ferrell in Sofia Coppola’s The Beguiled and she is the teenage legendary gothic writer Mary Shelley in love with the romantic and influential poet Percy Shelley in Mary Shelley. Mary elopes with Percy as a teenager and two years later pens the masterpiece of horror Frankenstein. As a young actor Elle Fanning showed how talented she is but now to our delight she is delving into the dark side in these classic roles. Both films are directed by women. Sofia Coppola directs The Beguiled which is a remake from a woman’s point of view of the Clint Eastwood classic. Nicole Kidman heads up an a great female coven. The first Saudi Arabian woman director, Haifaa al-Mansour, is at the helm of Mary Shelly. Stars include two from Game of Thrones, Maisie Williams and Stephen Dillane. Both films open this summer. Making this summer definitely feeling Gothic and gorgeous thanks to Elle Fanning!
