Watching Nan Goldin’s The Ballad of Sexual Dependency at the Museum of Modern Art in New York is, as the artist intended, an extraordinary human adventure—so touching and so real that you can smell the sweat, the aroma of downtown bars, the heroin cooking and the sex. You can feel the hope, the happiness, the heartbreak and the pain. It is an amazing personal voyage.
