Elizabeth Peyton
At Gladstone64 in New York through December 21

“SPEED POWER TIME HEART,” an installation at Gladstone64 in New York through December 21, is the first show by Elizabeth Peyton at Gladstone Gallery. Her work has been exhibited extensively and globally in galleries and museums, and is in leading public collections, including the Guggenheim, Whitney and MoMA in New York; the Tate Modern, London; and the Centre Pompidou in Paris. Peyton was born in 1965 and lives and paints in New York. “Her work,” writes Kirsty Bell in an upcoming Rizzoli monograph, “is charged with a vital sense of proximity, regardless of whether the subject is a living face, a photograph, a vase of flowers or the dramatic denouement of Wagner’s Tristan and Isolde. It is all about the present moment. Seen together, however, her work offers a complex meditation on the nature of time and creative potential.” PROVOKR here presents highlights from the Gladstone64 show.
