Taking a stroll through Sophie Taeuber-Arp‘s vivid world of magnificent abstract art on display at MOMA is a privilege indeed. Until the reopening of MOMA we would like to give you a preview of what you will see in this monumental retrospective and we are honored to show some of her outstanding works to you. Fear not, the exhibit will be at MOMA through February 2021 and then we can all wander and be mesmerized by the 400 pieces of work on exhibit by the phenomenal artist, Sophie Taeuber-Arp. The work on display cuts across all of her disciplines and is an exotic, rich experience.

Over a three decade career the industrious Swiss multi-disciplined Taeuber-Arp worked as a designer of textiles, costumes, furniture, interiors, architecture, art professor, puppet maker, dancer, sculptor, painter and illustrator. Sophie Taeuber-Arp’s exceptionally diverse work and output, her artistic background in multiple disciplines and her involvement in the Dada movement all comes together and creates a vibrant and unique world of abstraction in the exhibit.

“With this exhibition, we aim to advance the understanding of what abstraction meant to Taeuber-Arp, and how she contributed to its history through her steady commitment to innovation and experimentation,’ said the exhibit organizer and curator Anne Umland. The retrospective is a unified effort with the Museum of Modern Art, Kunstmuseum Basel, Tate Modern led by Anne Umland and will travel to Basel and then to London after MOMA.

We applaud the commitment of all involved in signaling the importance of Sophie Taeuber-Arp’s contribution to abstract art and creating a magnificent celebration of her life’s work. See you at MOMA after the lockdown when we can safely enjoy and spend time in Sophie Taeuber-Arp’s world of unique and bold shapes and colors that made her one of the most important artists of geometric abstraction of the 20th century.
