André Leon Talley
The Gospel According to André, a New Doc

A new documentary celebrating the fashion genius of former Vogue Editor-at-Large André Leon Talley is coming to theaters this spring. Featuring interviews with his mentors and colleagues, including Anna Wintour, Marc Jacobs, and Tom Ford, the film shows the larger-than-life Talley at his fiercest.
Standing at 6’6″, Talley has ruled over the fashion world–he’s the Queen to King Wintour–for five decades. He got his career start in the 70s in Andy Warhol’s Factory, which led to working at the Metropolitan Museum of Art for the great Diane Vreeland, formerly the editor at Vogue and curator at the Met. Soon Talley was working at the most prestigious—not to mention coolest—magazines in New York, including Interview, WWD, Vogue, and Vanity Fair.
A fixture in the front rows of all of the important shows, darling, Talley was often dressed more stylishly—and definitely more flamboyantly—than the runway models. Today, the towering, caftan-wearing Talley is telling his story of a young black man growing up in North Carolina, studiously reading Vogue magazine in the public library, and then living his dream of being, not just a part of the fashion world, but one of its leaders. His fascinating book, A. L. T.: A Memoir came out fifteen years ago, and now this, a gorgeous documentary featuring archival footage of this virtuoso of style.
The Gospel According to André opens May 25th.
