Beyond Kurt and Courtney
Faith Connexion Paris Fall 2017
Post-Balmain, where he turned the traditional “pretty” Parisian fashion house on its ooh-la-la, designer Christophe Decarnin is back with a bang as the creative director of the fresh, buzzy brand, Faith Connexion. At least, that’s the rumor, as the soft-spoken artiste hasn’t officially claimed to be running this fantastic show yet.
It’s not hard to see Decarnin’s stylish hand in these street-wise ensembles, however. Set to a silent soundtrack (don’t try to adjust your speakers, it’s supposed to be that way), the rock ‘n’ roll models stride down the short runway dressed in wildly mixed influences—many from familiar musical icons. Kurt Cobain’s unraveling cardigans—bouged out with gold appliques and rich stones—are paired with ragged jeans, distressed converse sneaks, and grungy flannels wrapped around the waist; Michael Jackson is represented with fancy military jackets; Courtney Love is exemplified with thrift store chic dresses over ruined black stockings and chunky boots; and Liam Gallagher’s favorite parkas are draped in fur along side hoodies declaring, LONDON IS MY HOME.
Another rumor swirling around this show: by fall there will be a Faith Connexion store opening in New York. Now that’s music to our ears.
