CHARLES JEFFREY LOVERBOY
Disoriented, Perplexing + Dazzling

So far, 2020 has thrust upon us a daunting array of issues and emotions: anxiety, confusion, comfort/discomfort, diversity, and inclusion…just to name a few. We get the same sort of journey with Charles Jeffrey’s new Spring/Summer 2021 collection for LOVERBOY.
Vibrant with color and psychedelic prints, the collection is a visual feast of tartan-checked dresses, puckered jackets & trousers, and knee socks tie-dyed with sunburst and bubble patterns. A big highlight of the collection is the denim with painted splashes of color, reminiscent of Henri Matisse. Looks are completed with platform shoes and bucket hats emblazoned with the LOVERBOY logo.
Men and women of all shapes, colors, and sizes show off the collection, so it should come as no surprise that this isn’t the first time Charles Jeffrey has championed individuality and diversity of expression. Back in June, the designer launched a joyful unisex capsule collection with bold splashes of color and placement prints, and five percent of proceeds from sales went to the Kaleidoscope Trust – an organization that supports the rights of LGBTQ+ people in countries where they are discriminated against or marginalized.
For Jeffrey’s latest collection, called “The Healing,” photographer Tim Walker created distorted, mind-bending images of the models wearing the collection, and they all were compiled into a book which was released in late October. The collection itself warps our sense of reality, and gives the feeling of mixing new and old – from the early days of the global pandemic to reemerging and coming together again. Juxtapositions are further examined in Jeffrey’s use of bold color – a hallmark of any LOVERBOY collection. This time, color invokes nature’s warning signs – the bold markings of poison dart frogs, orb spiders, and poisonous plants evoke feelings of danger and activate our natural sensibility to stay away. However, the inviting silhouettes keep us drawn in and engaged, urging us to find out more.
Be sure to check out Charles Jeffrey’s latest LOVERBOY collection. It represents a triumph over quarantine and isolation. The bold, hyper-imaginative pieces demand attention and dare the wearer not to be alone anymore, and that’s exactly what the world could use more of right now.
