THE DECADENT Tom Ford
His S/S 2018 show is beyond sexy and glamorous

Tom Ford has gone Hollywood in more ways than one. The Texas-born creative director for Gucci, Yves Saint Laurent, and now his own label, Tom Ford, had always wanted to make movies. His dream came true when he wrote and directed the fascinatingly stylish gay love story, A Single Man, in 2009. He followed that up with last year’s Nocturnal Animals, starring Jake Gyllenhaal. Always the sign of a talented and sensitive director, both films were nominated for Academy Awards in the acting categories.
While living in Los Angeles, Ford noticed the contrast of clothing choices made by the local fashionistas in Tinseltown, like the Jenners and Hadids. Sporty/chic by day, Hollywood glam by night, fucking fabulous all the time. His latest runway show reflected that dichotomy, and even starred two of his favorite California girls, Kendall and Gigi.
Invitations to the show that kick-started NYFW arrived with a bottle of Ford’s latest scent, appropriately titled Fucking Fabulous. Instagram went bananas with the lucky invitees posting photos of the sexy AF black, matte bottle. The runway show itself didn’t disappoint. As the super-thin models strutted down the catwalk in sky-high stilettos, it quickly became all about the leg. Short shorts in pale pink, bright shimmery tunics that barely covered their bottoms, mini mini skirts, all showed off the women’s glamorous gams. The hip-baring maillots that all the cool girls were wearing at the pool (and the bars) this past summer are represented here, paired with low-slung, wide-legged pants. Again, the summery leg is long and hard to ignore.
When the bright lights dimmed, and evening approaches, the glamor ignites. Long, sheer-to-the-point-of-transparent, column dresses in dusty pink, goth black, and citron-yellow float down the runway. Elegant le smoking jackets with tuxedo-striped pants balance the super feminine frocks—almost suggesting a Victor/Victoria slant.
The bright pinks, electric blues, and juicy oranges are the perfect Technicolor hues for this cinematic genius to use. A visual triumph as usual for the fearless Tom Ford!
