Donatella Smells Like Teen Spirit
Punk lux comes down the Versace runway

Punk lux comes down the Versace runway…
Tune in the colors of Billie Eilish, the decadence and thrift shop flare of Kurt and Courtney, and the punk symbols of safety pins, bondage, rips and anarchy in fashion created by Richard Hell and the Sex Pistols. Now beam in the magic of Donnatella Versace’s vision and you have the amazing Versace Fall RTW 2019.
Donatella’s take was to mashup top of the line luxury with a heavy sampling from those music artists who pushed hard on music and fashion boundaries.
Prior to the runway show Donatella said,” A little bit of imperfection is the new perfection.” The result is wonderfully bold and full of attitude. We were bombarded with slouchy Kurt Cobain cashmere sweaters, dresses and jackets held together with safety pins, bondage touches, punk pins and badges, untucked shirts and Courtney Love’s slip dresses.
The colors really were a point of difference with lime greens, pinks, fierce oranges and yellows. Donatella has always been a huge music fan and her favorite musical influences were on full display.
The runway music? We wished she had called. We needed a mix of the Dead Boys “Aint it Fun” and Hole’s Celebrity Skin, Jennifer’s Body, and Malibu then ending in a flourish of English Punk to elevate the show to it’s highest emotional peak.
The looks are so good that they could stand up to the best punk/grunge music that influenced the collection. These songs seeped into storage into Donatella’s brain and cosmically flowed out her fingertips like Kurt Cobain’s guitar rants. She painted a wondrous collection.
