H&M’s CHRISTMAS Charmer

Adrien Brody does Yule on a choo choo

BY: Howard Karren

Wes Anderson, the story-telling maestro behind such cinematic delights as The Royal Tenenbaums, Moonrise Kingdom and The Grand Budapest Hotel, has gone two years now since the Oscar-winning Budapest Hotel without a feature (though a stop-motion-animated movie about dogs, along the lines of Fantastic Mr. Fox, is expected in 2018). So it’s a welcome holiday pleasure to see him do a four-minute Christmas ad for H&M, called “Come Together,” starring Adrien Brody and set on a train. It features all of Anderson’s signature storybook flourishes—self-conscious camera moves up and down and outside the train, theatrical dialogue delivered deadpan and perfectly composed retro tableaux shot head-on—all accompanied by a soundtrack of charming Christmas songs. Luxuriate in the fake snow and sample the fashions in the video, above.
