Our favorite fashion film guru, the inimitable Nick Knight, is at it again.

If you aren’t yet familiar with Knight and his famous SHOWstudio, you should be.  SHOWstudio is a pioneering fashion website that emphasizes the entire creative process, meaning the viewer gets to take part in everything from conception to completion.  Knight was one of the first and most well-known imagemakers to fully embrace digital film as a means of showing fashion.  He’s worked with everyone from Björk to Lady Gaga (he directed her “Born This Way” video), and has collaborated with scores of high-profile fashion names like Alexander McQueen, Comme des Garçons, Gucci, and Miu Miu.

Speaking of Gucci and Miu Miu, Knight used the playful designs of both houses in his latest fashion film.  The fantastical short film, called “Scale,” is reminiscent of vintage French live entertainment shows, with each “act” showing a different look and performance.  From riding miniature bikes to playing violins to popping balloons, the film has all the makings of a distorted circus act, with plenty of accordion-based music from artist Jacques Pellarin to boot.

Model Stella Lucia (or should we say clown in this case?) rocks a multitude of well-known fashion names in the film, two of them being the aforementioned Gucci and Miu Miu, along with Nina Ricci and Jimmy Choo.  However, other fashions appear in the film from names you might not be as familiar with, such as Angel Chen, Roker, Ana Andrade, and Liam Rhys Johnson.  Stella Lucia is an Australian-born model who was discovered on Facebook at just 13 years old, and since then, she has been a frequent collaborator with Nick Knight and SHOWstudio.  This time around, we see a distorted Lucia performing a wide array of circus-type acts in clothes that are just as fantastical as the things she’s doing.

Although the video’s distorted effects make it somewhat difficult to fully see (and therefore fully appreciate) the fashions themselves, Nick Knight’s latest video continues his tradition of pushing the boundaries of how we see fashion within the film medium.  The whole thing is one big circus, and isn’t the world of fashion itself the exact same thing?
