The de Young Museum in San Francisco has become a fashion destination this spring thanks to its lavish exhibition, Oscar de la Renta: The Retrospective. Curated by former Vogue editor-at-large Andre Leon Talley, the exhibit covers the late designer’s five-decade-long career—from his early days in Spain (where he attended art school and got a job as a sketcher for famed couturier Cristobal Balenciaga) to the founding of his own iconic label and beyond. Broken up into themes—including his design influences, day wear and red-carpet creations—the exhibit features more than 130 ensembles, including dresses worn by a wide array of famous women ranging from Rihanna to First Lady Laura Bush.
