Patricia Field’s Flight
From Downtown Cool to Hollywood Royalty

The entertainment industry is chock-full of fashion and costume designers but it took only one creative eye to get filmgoers to point at the big screen and say “I want that wardrobe.” Patricia Field, the powerful creator who helped change the landscape of how fashion is represented on the big and little screen. Field is one of fashion’s greatest visionaries, who generates magic by channeling the character’s inner self for them to come alive on camera.
The native New Yorker is best known for her creative expression and her artistry behind the legendary HBO television series Sex and the City. Before her big break in the film industry, she ran a namesake boutique in Manhattan. In which celebrities, emerging designers, and artists shopped her edgy-chic designs.
It was 1995 when Field first met Sarah Jessica Parker and became the costume designer for Sex and the City. The famous television series quickly got known for its sexy, sophisticated, and outrageous fashion and how Patricia Field capitalized on womanhood by styling the sex-driven foursome. It was her calf-length furs, silk bandanas, nameplate necklaces that got her nominated for five Emmy Awards and six Costume Designer Guild awards.
Field did not stop there. She took her state-of-the-art talents to the set of The Devil Wears Prada, and styled notorious actors and actresses like Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, and Stanley Tucci.
Now, the NY fashion icon is channeling her efforts to TV Land series, Younger, starring five fabulous actors, Sutton Foster, Hilary Duff, Miriam Shor, Debi Mazar, and Molly Bernard, where she focuses on the characters and their stilettos.
Field has also recently entered the New York art community with her new project ARTFASHION. She joined legends like Keith Haring, Basquiat, and other visual artists. The secret gallery is located on the lower east side, where you can find wearable art and handcrafted pieces. You can also shop her Carrie Bradshaw inspired garments like her black diamond engagement ring — as seen in Sex and the City or her iconic knee-length tutus on her website.
