Filmmaker, author, and photographer, Wim Wenders has certainly earned the title as one of the most iconic film directors in the world. His astonishing cinematic productions have grabbed attention worldwide, and have made Wenders a popular storyteller.

The German auteur has produced dozens of feature films including 1984’s Paris, Texas and 1987’s Wings of Desire, and the documentaries Buena Vista Social Club (2000) and this year’s Pope Francis: A Man of His Word. Wenders has been nominated for three Academy Awards and has been honored at several film festivals. While Wenders has worked on numerous state-of-the-art pieces throughout his lifetime, he’s recently picked up a unique project that will blow your fashionable minds.

The luxury fashion house, Jil Sander has collaborated with Wim Wenders and his wife, photographer Donata Wenders to shoot the brand’s Fall/ Winter 2018 collection, co-designed by Luci and Luke Meier. Wim puts his radical and eccentric sense of storytelling into action and generated a surreal short film entitled Time Passing.

This short was the first award-winning collaboration with fashion designer Jil Sander. The three-minute film also captures behind-the-scenes by Wenders photographer wife, Donata Wenders. During the film, the cast is caught in a time loop of recurring scenarios marked by striking outfit changes from the collection in out of the ordinary locations. Wenders wanted the viewer to become one with the characters and to follow them on their cyclical journey.

Time Passing by Wim Wenders for Jil Sander Fall /Winter 2018 Collection

“Jil Sander designed by Luci and (her husband) Luke has a new, unique and modern mélange of classiness and avant-garde, easygoing and haute couture, subtle elegance and defined silhouettes in all their different elements of clothing,” Donata Wenders told WWD. “I especially like their choice of colors, cuts, and fabrics.”

The two couples have worked together before, creating the advertising campaign for the Spring/ Summer 2018 collection. The sophistication and innocence within the campaign were unfolded across five different scenarios (episodes). Each work of fiction consists of dramatic “pauses” and intense moments. This style of storytelling leaves us as viewers curious, captivated, and wondering what is going to happen next. Not to mention, the remarkable rotation of clothing and silence within the video, which will leave you speechless.
