We don’t know how this summer is going to pan out. Whether movie theatres will reopen in July as currently scheduled or remain closed. Regardless, there are still great new films coming out this summer. Here are ten summer flicks we’re looking forward to seeing.

Shirley

This loose biopic stars Elisabeth Moss as the famous horror novelist Shirley Jackson. It follows a young couple who move in with Shirley and her husband then find themselves the basis for her next novel. Shirley comes out on Hulu beginning June 5, 2020.

Da 5 Bloods

In Spike Lee‘s new movie, four African-American Vietnam War vets return to Vietnam to search for both their fallen squad leader (Chadwick Boseman) and buried treasure. They must face nature and PTSD to survive. Da 5 Bloods comes out on Netflix on June 12, 2020.

The King of Staten Island

In this semi-autobiographical dramedy directed by Judd Apatow, Pete Davidson stars as Scott, a pothead in a state of arrested development ever since his father’s death. He has to move on with his life. The King of Staten Island comes out on-demand starting June 12, 2020.

Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga

Will Ferrell and Rachel McAdams star in this comedy as a not-so-talented music duo with dreams of entering the famed Eurovision Song Contest. Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga comes out on Netflix on June 26, 2020.

Irresistible

This political satire from Jon Stewart focuses on a Democratic political consultant who helps a retired Marine colonel run for mayor of his small, right-wing Wisconsin town. Irresistible comes out on-demand on June 26, 2020.

The Old Guard

In this action movie based on a comic book, Charlize Theron leads a group of immortal mercenaries who must fight to protect themselves. Then their secret is revealed by a government worker named Copley (Chiwetel Ejiofor). The Old Guard comes out on Netflix, July 10, 2020.

Palm Springs

Andy Samberg and Cristin Milioti star as two guests at a wedding in Palm Springs. After a chance encounter, they awaken the next morning to find themselves trapped in the wedding venue. Palm Springs comes out on Hulu, July 10, 2020.

Tenet

In this new film from Christopher Nolan, a man known only as The Protagonist (John David Washington) has to prevent World War III by somehow using the code word, Tenet. From the trailer, this movie looks like Inception on acid. Tenet comes out on IMAX, July 17, 2020.

Wonder Woman 1984

Gal Gadot returns in the sequel to 2017’s Wonder Woman. This time, the film is set in 1984. In addition to Gadot, we’re excited for and confused by Chris Pine‘s return as Steve Trevor. Wonder Woman 1984 is scheduled for theatrical release on August 14, 2020.

Antebellum

Janelle Monáe stars in Antebellum as Veronica, a successful author trapped in the past. She has to solve the mystery of why she time-traveled back to slave-era Louisiana before it’s too late. Antebellum may be out in theaters beginning August 21, 2020.
