5 Films for Fall
The Goldfinch, Charlie's Angels, The Irishman + more

We are going to give you a fall preview of the five most highly anticipated films to see from the staff picks here at PROVOKR. Here is a taste of what is traditionally a season of great films. We also added fist images from Greta Gerwig’s Little Women and Sam Mendes’ 1917 which both open in December. Next week will be a full story on Joker. So many Oscar contenders on our list.
The Woman in the Window
The Woman in the Window has an all star cast in Amy Adams, Julianne Moore, Gary Oldman and Anthony Mackie. It sounds like a familiar story as an agoraphobic woman living alone in New York City witnesses a violent crime through her window. The thriller opens October 4th and is directed by Joe Wright, the screenplay is by A.J.Finn and Tracy Letts. A.J. Finn wrote the novel. Can’t wait, sounds very Hitchcock and is sure to rattle us in our dreams.
The Irishman
The Irishman is the Martin Scorsese epic film starring another all star cast with Robert DeNiro, Al Pacino, Anna Paquin and Joe Pesci. It is the story of a mob hitman who may have been involved with the murder of his best friend union boss Jimmy Hoffa. A violent story with twists. Produced by Netflix as part of a deal with Scorsese. Go Marty! The film opens October 31st.
The Goldfinch
The Goldfinch from the novel by Dora Tartt, is one to watch for. The film stars Ansel Elgort, Nicole Kidman, Sarah Paulson and Jeffrey Wright. A boy is traumatized by seeing his mother killed in a bombing in the Metropolitan Museum of Art. A wealthy upper eastside family takes him in. If it can have the strength of the book we are in for incredible performances. Opens September 13th.
Charlie’s Angels
Charlie’s Angels, not really a prestige film, but one we want to see. Starring Kristen Stewart, Elizabeth Banks, Ella Balinska and Naomi Scott. Elizabeth Banks is also the director. She even promises to show a comedic side of Kristen Stewart, is that possible? The Angels report into a variety of Bosleys which sounds fresh and fun. Join the Angels and the Bosleys on November 15th for fast paced adventure, we can’t wait to Kristen Stewart in this role.
Gemini Man
Gemini Man is Ang Lee’s new film and stars Will Smith as an overage hitman who has to face, literally, his younger self. With Ang Lee helming the film we can expect great performances and a exciting storyline as Will Smith has to do battle with his younger self. Doesn’t sound like an Ang Lee film but we are going with it . Opening October 4th.
Next week we will write a full deserving profile of Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker and we have included first images from Joker and Greta Gerwig’s Little Women and Sam Mendes’ 1917, both Oscar contenders opening in December. In Greta Gerwig’s Little Women, the character of Jo is rumored to be a lesbian, wasn’t she always a lesbian? Starring Saoirse Ronan and Timothee Chalamet. Sam Mendes’ 1917 is a single day in World War l starring Richard Madden and Benedict Cumberbatch.
