Swedish actress Alicia Vikander has been wowing audiences with her acting since her feature film debut in 2010’s Pure. After garnering acclaim and attention with her European film projects, Vikander started to gain recognition in the United States after her humanoid robot character Ava in Ex Machina. In 2016, Vikander won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress in The Danish Girl. Let’s take a look at her upcoming projects.

The Glorias

Julie Taymor’s new film follows feminist icon Gloria Steinem’s mission fighting for women’s rights. The movie tracks Steinem’s life, from childhood to adulthood. Vikander plays Gloria from ages 20 through 40. The Glorias had its world premiere at Sundance and was released on September 30, 2020.

 

Blue Bayou

This movie, written, directed by, and starring Justin Chon focuses on Antonio LeBlanc (Chon), a Korean adopted by an American family. When he finds himself on the brink of deportation, he must confront his past and his family. A release date has not been set for this film, but Focus Features will distribute it

The Green Knight

Vikander plays Lady/Esel in this David Lowery-helmed retelling of the Arthurian legend of Sir Gawain (Dev Patel) and the Green Knight (Ralph Ineson). The movie was set to screen at South by Southwest (SXSW), but the coronavirus pandemic canceled the event. The Green Knight does not currently have a scheduled release date.

 

Born to be Murdered

Vikander stars opposite John David Washington in this upcoming thriller. The movie follows a young couple who, while on vacation in Trikala, Greece, find themselves in the middle of a deadly conspiracy. The film, directed by Ferdinando Cito Filomarino, also stars Boyd Holbrook and Vicky Krieps. It may be released sometime in 2021.

Tomb Raider 2

Vikander returns as Lara Croft in this sequel to 2018’s Tomb Raider. Kristin Scott Thomas is also set to reprise her role as Ana Miller. As of now, there is no known plot. The movie is expected to come out on March 19, 2021.
