AMY ADAMS
The Phenomenally Talented Ms. Adams

Amy Adams has been nominated for an Academy Award six times, and so far, she has never won. Hopefully, she will win the golden statue soon and not join Peter O’Toole with the most Oscar nominations (eight) and no wins. We’re not going to spend this article harping on how Adams has been consistently snubbed by the Academy, though she has, so no more Oscar talk right now. We will, however, spend the rest of this article discussing how amazing Adams is.

Adams is a bona fide A-lister, but success did not come quickly for this mega-talented star. She made her feature film debut in the 1999 satire Drop Dead Gorgeous as cheerleader and pageant-queen hopeful Leslie Miller. After that, she took on guest spots in different tv shows, including an episode of Joss Whedon’s Buffy the Vampire Slayer. In 2002 it seemed like things were turning around for Adams. She landed a role in Steven Spielberg’s Catch Me If You Can. But while that was a supporting role in a high-profile project, Adams was unemployed the following year.
Things turned around in 2005 when Adams was cast in the independent film Junebug as pregnant woman Ashley Johnsten. She got her first Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actress and her career was finally on the upswing. After Junebug, Adams beat out 250 other actresses vying for the part of Disney Princess Giselle in the live-action musical Enchanted. Can you even imagine anyone else in that role? And after that and years of hard work, Adams made it. She continues to take on high profile roles one after the other, including a turn in the HBO miniseries, Sharp Objects.
Adams has several exciting upcoming projects. Up first is the drama Hillbilly Elegy, directed by Ron Howard, set for release in November 2020. Next is the thriller The Woman in the Window where she plays an agoraphobic woman who is convinced that her neighbor was murdered. And finally, a long-awaited sequel to Enchanted, Disenchanted.

While her career had a rocky beginning, her personal life has always been more stable. She has been with actor and painter Darren Le Gallo since 2001. Together, they have a daughter, born in 2010. She leads a quiet family-centered life and stays out of the public eye, except for the occasional interview. By all accounts, she’s one of Hollywood’s most gracious people, so give her an Oscar already!
