ANTHONY MACKIE
This Falcon Soars To New Levels In 2020

You know him best for his portrayal of Sam Wilson, aka Falcon in the Marvel cinematic universe, but Anthony Mackie has played more than just a superhero. Born September 23, 1978, in New Orleans, Louisiana, Mackie initially planned on becoming an engineer like his brother. Fate had other plans for him and he got hit with the acting bug. After graduating from high school, Mackie moved to New York City to study acting at the prestigious Juilliard School, where he roomed with actor Lee Pace.
He started to work soon after graduating from Juilliard in 2001. Mackie’s feature film debut was in the 2002 hip hop drama, 8 Mile starring Eminem. He played the main antagonist Papa Doc. Then, in 2003 he starred as an artist struggling with his homosexuality in the independent film Brother to Brother. Mackie got a Best Actor nomination for an Independent Spirit Award. He was nominated for a second Independent Spirit Award nod for his supporting role in The Hurt Locker.
In addition to acting, Mackie dabbled in restaurants and bars. In 2011, he opened NoBar in Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn. Mackie also planned to open a second location, but then closed his BedStuy location and scrapped all expansion plans in 2015. In 2014 he married his childhood sweetheart, Sheletta Chapital, with whom he has four children. The couple split in 2017 and finalized their divorce in 2018. While the relationship ended, the former couple shares joint custody and are on good terms.
Now that Disney has officially launched their streaming site Disney+, Mackie is all set to continue his role as Falcon in the new TV series The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. The show takes place after the events of Avengers: Endgame and will follow Falcon, after being given the Captain America mantle, teaming up with Bucky Barnes (The Winter Soldier). He will also be playing legendary lawyer Johnnie Cochran, best known for defending OJ Simpson, in the upcoming movie Signal Hill. But before all that, Mackie will star alongside Samuel L. Jackson in AppleTV+’s controversial The Banker. Mackie is sure to continue to wow us.
