BEST NEW MOVIES 2021
No Time to Die, Black Widow, Candyman +

We recently put out a piece about the potential Oscars contenders opening this January and February. Now we want to take a look at exciting movies coming out this year. Many of these were originally supposed to be released in 2020, but were pushed back due to the pandemic. Of course, some of these films could find themselves pushed back again, but as of now, here are 14 films scheduled for a 2021 release that we are looking forward to.
Coming 2 America
33 years after Coming to America came out, we are getting a sequel. Prince Akeem Joffer (Eddie Murphy) is all set to become King of Zamunda when he learns he has an American son he never knew about. Coming 2 America will be released on Amazon Prime on March 5, 2021.
No Time to Die
Daniel Craig’s last film in the James Bond franchise was supposed to be released in November, 2019. It’s been pushed back several times. It looks like we will finally get to see this much buzzed-about movie on April 2, 2021.
Candyman
This sequel of the 1992 horror movie directed by Nia DaCosta and written by Jordan Peele follows a couple who move into the newly gentrified Cabrini Towers. Tony Todd reprises his role as the titular Candyman. It is slated for release April 23, 2021.
A Quiet Place Part II
John Krasinski’s follow-up to 2018’s A Quiet Place was supposed to be released in 2020, before being postponed. The movie, which follows the remaining members of the Abbott family as they seek safety is now coming out April 23, 2021.
Black Widow
Another movie that had its release date pushed back several times. The stand-alone Black Widow film, the beginning of Marvel’s Phase Four, was supposed to come out in May, 2020. It will now be released May 7, 2021.

Cruella
Emma Stone stars in this Disney crime comedy about the origins of the terrifying, iconic, dalmatian obsessed Cruella de Vil. Cruella is scheduled to be theatrically released on May 28, 2021.
F9
The next installment in the Fast & Furious franchise, which as you may have guessed is the 9th in the series, was supposed to come out in April of 2019, before being delayed multiple times. It is now scheduled for a release on May 28, 2021.
The French Dispatch
Wes Anderson’s entirely black-and-white new movie set in the French offices of a fictional newspaper, and based on Anderson’s love of The New Yorker, is scheduled for a release sometime in May, 2021.
The Green Knight
This David Lowery fantasy film about the Arthurian legend of Sir Gawain (Dev Patel) who embarks on a journey to confront the Green Knight (Ralph Ineson) was originally scheduled to be released May 29, 2020. It is now slated to come out July 30, 2021.
In the Heights
This movie adaptation of Lin-Manuel Miranda’s smash-hit musical about the Washington Heights neighborhood of NYC, directed by Jon M. Chu, is scheduled to be released on June 18, 2021.
Death on the Nile
Kenneth Branagh’s adaptation of the Agatha Christie mystery, and a follow-up to Murder on the Orient Express was originally supposed to come out on December 20, 2019 before being delayed several times. It will now come out September 17, 2021.
Dune
Denis Villeneuve’s upcoming remake of the Frank Herbert book, starring Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, Oscar Issac, and Rebecca Ferguson, is another movie that was supposed to come out last year. It is now coming out October 1, 2021.

Eternals
The Chloé Zhao-directed Marvel movie about a group of immortal aliens who team up to save the fate of the world is notable for having the first LGBT main character in any Marvel movie. It is coming out November 5, 2021.
West Side Story
Steven Spielberg’s remake of the 1961 musical movie classic was supposed to be a big release on December 18, 2021. It has been pushed back a full year and we can now expect to see it December 10, 2021.
