BILLIE EILISH
The World's A Little Billie

Billie Eilish: The World’s A Little Blurry is a documentary about charting the creative process behind Billie Eilish’s first studio album When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?
The album features Eilish’s distinctive sound that mixes elements of electropop and hip-hop with avant-garde noise. Throughout the album, Eilish explores themes including mental health, drug addiction, and heartbreak. Last year, it won Album of The Year and the Grammys, and the record’s iconic earworm Bad Guy netted the Song of the Year award.
When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go? featured 3 other Billboard Hot-100 certified singles (You Should See Me in a Crown, When the Party’s Over, and Bury a Friend).

Eilish’s producer on the album was the mononymous Finneas (aka Finneas O’Connell). He’s Eilish’s older brother and co-wrote/produced the album with her. Finneas cites his synesthesia as an influence on the characteristic soundscape he creates with his sibling. Synesthesia is a perceptual phenomenon in which one sensory pathway leads to other experiences. For instance, synesthetes can “hear colors” or “see musical notes.” Eilish also has the unique perceptual ability and it aids her in visualizing her music, according to NPR.
*The history of trailblazing modern artists with synesthesia arguably starts with the Russian painter Wassily Kandinsky
The film is helmed by accomplished documentarian R. J. Cutler. He is the nominated filmmaker behind Belushi, The World According To Dick Cheney, and The War Room (an Oscar-nominee).
The movie was produced on a relatively modest budget of $1-2 million, according to Vanity Fair. While Eilish’s reps have not confirmed the exact amount, according to the Hollywood Reporter the music doc was picked up by Apple TV+ in an 8-figure distribution deal.
The World’s A Little Blurry opens in select theaters and is available for streaming on Apple TV+ on February 26th, 2021.
