It was recently announced that we will be getting a new Pirates of the Caribbean movie, but this one would not star Johnny Depp, no, this one would be led by Margot Robbie. So far, we know that this Pirates of the Caribbean movie will be separate from the franchise reboot being helmed by Ted Elliott and Craig Mazin, and rumored to star Karen Gillan. This Pirates movie will be written by Birds of Prey screenwriter Christina Hodson. Other than that, we know that this movie will follow an entirely new crew of pirates and have no connection to Depp’s Jack Sparrow. While we wait to learn more about this exciting project, let’s get to know the Australian bombshell a little more.

Born in Queensland, Australia, Robbie got her start acting in independent films before getting cast in the Australian soap opera Neighbours. After leaving Neighbours, she moved to America and was cast in the short-lived ABC show Pan Am. Her breakthrough came when Martin Scorsese cast her as Leonardo DiCaprio’s second wife in The Wolf of Wall Street. Although she only had minimal screen time, her performance established her as an acting force. From there, her star continued to rise.

She particularly wowed audiences with her transformation into disgraced figure skater Tonya Harding in the biopic I, Tonya. She was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actress for that performance. From there, she garnered more acclaim with roles as Queen Elizabeth I in the historical drama Mary Queen of Scots, ill-fated actress Sharon Tate in Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in…Hollywood, and as fictional Fox News employee Kayla in Bombshell, for which she received her second Oscar nomination. And of course, who could forget her spin on Batman comics villain Harley Quinn, a role she has now played three times.

She has several exciting new projects ahead. She will reprise her role as Harley Quinn in a new The Suicide Squad movie; she will also play Maid Marion in a biopic about Robin Hood’s love. And she will be starring in a live-action Barbie movie co-written and directed by Greta Gerwig. We have to wonder, will this be a kid’s movie or something adults can also enjoy?
