We’ve found out why Jake Gyllenhaal doesn’t shower — it’s because he’s busy working. The 40-year-old actor recently admitted that he thinks showering is overrated, but when does he have time? (That being said, when the 10-minute version of “All Too Well” comes out, he can use his ex Taylor Swift’s song as a signifier to how long he’s been in the shower).

That’s not why we’re here. We’re here because Gyllenhaal has 12 — yes, a dozen — projects in the works! Ten are films, and two are series (thank God.) We’ll give you a breakdown of each below. But, one thing is for sure: You’ll be seeing a lot of Gyllenhaal over the next several years.

THE GUILTY

The first of his projects is The Guilty, a Netflix film where Gyllenhaal plays a dispatcher who gets a call from a kidnapped woman. The trailer was just released, and it’s as intense as you expect it to be—The Guilty premieres on October 1.

AMBULANCE

Gyllenhaal in a Michael Bay film? Yes, please! It’s unclear his role in Ambulance, which follows two robbers who steal the emergency vehicle after a heist goes awry. Gyllenhaal will be joined by Yahya Abdul-Mateen II (Candyman) and Eiza González (I Care A Lot). Expect a lot of explosions.

THE DIVISION

Get ready for a pandemic film, PROVOKRs. It’s inevitable as we continue to grapple with COVID19. The Division is set in the near future when a deadly virus that started on money decimated NYC. A group of specially trained civilians is brought in to help save the city. Gyllenhall, who we presume will be part of that team, and Jessica Chastain are the only two connections to it so far.

THE SON

Now we’ve come to the first series on this list. The Son follows a man, presumably Gyllenhaal’s character, as he questions his father’s suicide and looks for the killers. The Son will mark Gyllenhaal’s first recurring role in a TV series, so the hype is real.

SUDDENLY

Based on the French book Soudain Seuls, Suddenly documents a marooned couple’s experience on an island. The trip was supposed to be a dream getaway. Now it’s a nightmare. Vanessa Kirby plays his wife.

FRANCIS AND THE GODFATHER

Director Barry Levinson is bringing together an all-star cast to depict the battle to get The Godfather made. Gyllenhaal will portray famed producer Robert Evans, and Oscar Isaac will play Francis Ford Coppola. Elisabeth Moss and Elle Fanning are also set to star. We want to see it now!

COMBAT CONTROL

Gyllenhaal will also portray combat controller John Chapman, who was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor for his actions in the Battle of Takur Ghar during the war in Afghanistan. So it seems like Gyllenhaal is gunning for that Oscar.

THE ANARCHISTS VS. ISIS

And Combat Control isn’t his only war-themed film. He is the only big name tied to The Anarchists vs. ISIS. It follows a group of American activists that help Kurdish forces defeat the terrorists.

SNOW BLIND

Snow Blind is about a family in the witness protection program. It seems Gyllenhaal might play the father in this film, as it follows a high school senior who realizes his family is in the program.

LAKE SUCCESS

Lake Success is the second TV series for Gyllenhaal. It’s a satirical show about hedge fund owner Barry Cohen, who leaves his life in Manhattan for a cross-country bus ride to search for his college girlfriend. We’re looking for this one!

RIO

Gyllenhaal and Benedict Cumberbatch lead this thriller. It follows a reporter who travels to Rio de Janeiro to visit a wealthy friend only to get roped into helping him fake his death.

FINEST KIND

And finally, Finest Kind. It’s a mob movie set in Boston where two brothers get pulled into the criminal lifestyle. That wraps up what is sure to be an incredible and busy run from Gyllenhaal.
