Kevin Macdonald’s (How I Live Now) new drama The Mauritanian follows the true story of Mohamedou Ould Slahi. Slahi was an immigrant from Mauritania who was detained by the U.S. Government, and held, without charge, at Guantánamo Bay from 2002 until 2016. He eventually finds an ally in attorney Nancy Hollander and her associate Teri Duncan who decide to take on his case. The Mauritanian is scheduled to come out February 12, 2021, let’s take a look at some of the cast now.

Tahar Rahim as Mohamedou Ould Slahi
French actor Rahim, best known for his starring role in 2009’s A Prophet, plays Slahi. Early reviews have already singled out his performance and even gained him a nomination for Actor of the Year at the London Film Critics’ Circle Awards.

Jodie Foster as Nancy Hollander
Foster (The Silence of the Lambs) plays Slahi’s attorney Nancy Hollander who decides to take on his case and finds herself going toe-to-toe with the United States Government when she uncovers a wide-ranging conspiracy.

Shailene Woodley as Teri Duncan
Woodley (Big Little Lies) stars as Nancy Hollander’s associate Teri Duncan, who is initially brought onto the case to act as a French-English translator for Slahi, but he speaks perfect English.

Benedict Cumberbatch as Stu Couch
Cumberbatch (Doctor Strange) stars as military prosecutor Lt. Colonel Stuart Couch who initially decides to prosecute Slahi’s case, but as he investigates, he uncovers evidence that reveals a large conspiracy.

Zachary Levi as Neil Buckland
Levi plays Neil Buckland, a government employee and a sort of confidante for Couch when he realizes that something fishy is going on.
