Cast Of Shaft
7 Beautiful Men And Regina King
What’s cooler than cool? Shaft circa 1971. Think John Wick meets The Big Lebowski meets The Godfather. But way cooler.
The 1971 version of the film, directed by civil rights activist and filmmaking pioneer, Gordon Parks, introduced America to “Blaxploitation;” a groundbreaking crossover genre that resonated with cinema fans from all walks (and shades) of life.
Private investigator and legendary dick, Richard Roundtree, aims to rescue a Harlem mobster’s daughter, kidnapped by the Italian mafia. While 1970s fun and hijinks ensue, a new protagonist was introduced to America, irrevocably changing the persona of the urban hero.
Fast forward to 2019: race relations are shockingly still very much in turmoil; African American men are gunned down by misguided, poorly trained, or worse, racist cops, on a daily basis. There seems to be no end to the excuses made for broad daylight executions with no judge, jury or reason.
Let’s lighten the mood, shall we?
Enter Tim Story, director of the latest installment in the iconic series. Fans will be delighted to see Richard Roundtree reprise his role as John Shaft, along with Oscar winner Regina Hall, Samuel L. Jackson, Avan Jogia, Matt Lauria as Cutty, Robbie Jones, Callan Mulvey and many more.
The official release date for Shaft is June 14th 2019, and following the worldwide release, it will be available on Netflix.
