Chris Pratt has come a long way from playing lovable goofball Andy in Parks and Recreation. Ever since getting cast in Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy and the Jurassic World movies, Pratt has also established himself as a bonafide action star. But, the actor has not been without controversy. There were rumors that an affair with a co-star caused his divorce from Anna Farris. And while he has never made openly political statements, his beliefs have come under intense scrutiny due to his involvement with the notably homophobic megachurch, Hillsong. This scrutiny even led to him being labeled “the worst Hollywood Chris” on Twitter late last year. Whether you love him or hate him, he’s still studio gold, pulling in projects left and right. In addition to having another Marvel movie on the way and another Jurassic World film, he is also starring in the upcoming sci-fi action film The Tomorrow War.

In The Tomorrow War, Pratt stars as Dan Forester, a man from the distant past, haunted by his inner demons, which scientists draft to help save humanity from invading aliens. Making his live-action feature film directorial debut, Chris McKay directed this sci-fi flick from a script by Zach Dean. The movie also stars Yvonne Strahovski, J.K. Simmons, and Betty Gilpin. A teaser was recently released for the film that gives very little away. Audiences can be sure to expect the massive explosions and widespread destruction common to the alien-invasion genre.

The movie was initially slated for a theatrical release by Paramount Pictures before being delayed by the pandemic; it was then picked up by Amazon, which will release it on streaming only.

The Tomorrow War is set to be released on Amazon Prime on July 2, 2021.
