Dakota Johnson, daughter of Hollywood royalty Melanie Griffith and Don Johson, granddaughter of Tippi Hedren, and former stepdaughter of Antonio Banderas, has established herself as a force to be reckoned with over the last few years. She got her acting start in small roles in films like Crazy in Alabama and The Social Network.
It was her casting as Anastasia Steele in the film adaptation of E.L. James’ BDSM drama series Fifty Shades of Grey, that catapulted Johnson from working actor, to A-list celebrity. Since her start in the controversial, kinky film series, Johnson has remained busy. Right now, she has a slate of new projects on the horizon, including a very exciting Netflix adaptation of Jane Austen’s Persuasion.
Johnson has been cast in the lead role of Anne Elliot in this reimagining of Austen’s last novel. The Netflix logline for the project reads: “Living with her snobby family on the brink of bankruptcy, Anne Elliot is an unconforming woman with modern sensibilities. When Frederick Wentworth—the dashing one she once sent away—crashes back into her life, Anne must choose between putting the past behind her or listening to her heart when it comes to second chances.” Persuasion marks the feature film directorial debut for British theatre director, Carrie Cracknell.
