David Tennant Goes Mad
With Elisabeth Moss in Mad To Be Normal

As charismatic as he is talented, David Tennant’s name is always a thrill to read in a cast list, whether for a TV series, such as Broadchurch or Jessica Jones, or a film like the upcoming Mad to Be Normal.
The Scottish actor has had a long, illustrious career on British television, mostly notably for his involvement in the Dr. Who series between 2005 and 2013. And he’s also a much-in-demand voice actor in animated films like How to Train Your Dragon and the currently well-received Ferdinand.
It all became clear just how alluring he is, however when the British mystery series Broadchurch made its debut in 2013. As the intense, easily irritated—but nonetheless quite adorable—Detective Inspector Alec Hardy, Tennant made quite an impression on American audiences with his sharp angles and soft eyes. And that accent isn’t hard on the ears, either.
His newest film, Mad to Be Normal, is based on a real life genius, Dr. R.D. Laing, a swingin’ 60s psychiatrist with a free spirit, an open mind, and a pocketful of LSA, which, in some cases, he gave freely to his patients. There’s love and sex, of course—Elisabeth Moss plays his future wife—and lots of craziness in the mental health commune Laing created to house his unstable cases. And from the look of the trailer, Tennant seems to handle it all with his usual panache.
Next up he’s playing with the big kids in the star-studded bio film, Mary Queen of Scots. With Saoirse Ronan in the titular role, and Margot Robbie as her rival, Queen Elizabeth, Tennant plays John Knox, the founder of the Presbyterian Church and religious enemy to Mary. This will be a showdown worth watching.
Mad to Be Normal opens in early 2018 and Mary Queen of Scots opens November 2nd.
