GASPAR NOE
The Director's Most Provocative Films

Argentinian-born, France-based director and provocateur Gaspar Noé has been pushing sexual boundaries on film since the 1980s. He has become known for a style called cinéma du corps, or cinema of the body. He often explores sex and sexuality in graphic detail on screen, eschewing romanticized depictions of sexual activity for more carna, explicit ones. Interestingly enough, although he has been working for decades, he only has five feature films. Below, we take a look at his three sexiest.
ENTER THE VOID
This psychedelic movie follows drug dealer Oscar (Nathaniel Brown). After police shoot and kill him, Oscar’s spirit leaves his body. Now a disembodied force, Oscar watches events unfold around his death. The movie ends with Oscar’s ghost traveling to a hotel to observe multiple couples have sex, while their genitals emit a glowing pink aura.
LOVE
We’ve profiled this movie before. Most recently, it was on our list of sexiest films on Netflix. So, of course, we had to include it here. The erotic drama tracks the relationship between Murphy (Karl Glusman) and Electra (Aomi Muyock). To spice things up, they invite their neighbor, Omi (Klara Kristin), into their bed. This movie is notable for its unsimulated, and in many cases, unchoreographed sex scenes.
CLIMAX
A true story allegedly inspired this film. Climax focuses on a French dance troupe. At an after-party, the group’s drinks are laced with LSD. As the dancers become increasingly paranoid, carnality and chaotic frenzy take over. If Noé wanted to make a movie about the festival of Dionysus, this would be it. The film is notable for being almost entirely improvised.
