It’s all DOWNHILL
Will Ferrell and Julia Louis-Dreyfuss' Avalanche

Some people choose happy rom-coms to watch on Valentine’s Day, others prefer horror movies and other folks want to see a fractured couple try to reclaim their relationship on the day of love. Downhill is one of those movies. Will Ferrell and Julia Louis-Dreyfuss star as Pete and Billie, a married couple who, with their children, narrowly escape an avalanche while on vacation. After Pete chooses to protect his cell phone instead of his family during the snowslide, Billie is left to wonder if the relationship is salvageable.
This dark comedy was written by Jesse Armstrong, Nat Faxon, and Jim Rash and co-directed by Faxon and Rash. It is an English-language remake of the 2014 Swedish movie, Force Majeure. Coincidentally, the actor Kristofer Hivju, best known for his role as Tormund in Game of Thrones, has a supporting role in Downhill and also appeared in Force Majeure.
The trailer for Downhill, released in late December, offers a glimpse of Ferrell and Louis-Dreyfuss at their best. The movie is chock full of dry, sardonic humor. It is a black comedy, after all, so be prepared for more sarcasm than laugh-out-loud gags.
Downhill, distributed by Fox Searchlight Pictures, is scheduled to have its world premiere on January 26, 2020, at the Sundance Film Festival.
See Downhill in theaters beginning on Valentine’s Day.
