JANELLE MONAE ANTEBELLUM
The Horror of an Author's Inescapable Nightmare

Not too long ago, we profiled musician and actor Janelle Monáe and talked about her upcoming film Antebellum. In it, Monáe stars as Veronica, a successful author trapped in the past. She has to solve the mystery of why she time-traveled back to slavery-era Louisiana before it’s too late. When we previously wrote about Antebellum, only the first trailer was out. But now, a brand new trailer has been released, which makes us even more excited. Let’s take a look at it.
It opens happily enough, we zoom in on a shot of a large house (plantation perhaps?) Before we see a montage of Monáe’s Veronica with her partner and child, being happy and carefree while uplifting music plays in the background. Then it all abruptly switches, and what seemed like it could have been a Hallmark movie commercial or perfume ad, becomes terrifying, when Veronica is abducted and finds herself enslaved in the past.
Antebellum was written and directed by Gerard Bush and Christopher Renz. In addition to Monáe, it stars Eric Lange, Jena Malone, Jack Huston, Kiersey Clemons, Gabourey Sidibe and Marque Richardson.
Antebellum was set for release this past April but pushed back due to the pandemic. Antebellum is now scheduled for release on August 21, 2020.
