Red Sparrow is her new sexy Russian thriller
Ever notice the resemblance between Jennifer Lawrence and Helen Mirren? The likeness is even more apparent when you watch the trailer for the upcoming thriller, Red Sparrow. A Russian spy drama, this film could almost be the origin story for Victoria, Mirren’s sexy secret agent in the 2010 espionage comedy, Red.
In Red Sparrow, JLaw plays Dominika, a Russian ballerina who is recruited into “Sparrow School,” an intelligence service where young women are trained to use their bodies as weapons, both sexually and combatively. With movies like Atomic Blonde and next year’s Proud Mary coming up, “sexy hit women” is clearly a growing cinematic genre, and we’re not complaining. We’ve been waiting for Jennifer Lawrence to kick some serious ass ever since Katniss won the Hunger Games. Speaking of which, this is the actress’s fourth time working with Austrian director Francis Lawrence (no relation) who helmed three of her Hunger Games movies, as well as music videos for every huge name in the biz, including Beyoncé, Britney Spears, Pink, Green Day, Justin Timberlake, Lady Gaga, and Jennifer Lopez.
Red Sparrow co-stars the always intriguing actor, Joel Edgerton (Loving) as the CIA agent Dominika targets and then seduces, and Mary Louise Parker, who, coincidentally perhaps, co-starred with Dame Mirren in Red.
