Jonathan Rhys Meyers, the Irish actor with his fair share of successes and troubles, seemed to have fallen off the grid, but he hasn’t; he’s been working. With his new film Edge of the World set for release in June, he’s now filming the thriller The Good Neighbor and completed Yakuza Princess and American Night. Two other films, Hide and Seek and The Survivalist, are in post-production.

Edge of the World, directed by Michael Hausmann, is about Sir James Brooke, the British soldier who defied the British Empire to rule a jungle kingdom in 1840s Borneo. Brooke embarked on a lifelong crusade to end piracy, slavery, and head-hunting. Known as the “White Rajah,” Brooke helped the Sultan of Brunei take down a pirate rebellion and was later given the land of Sarawak as his private kingdom. Rajah Brooke’s dynasty would last three generations and more than 100 years.

The film’s trailer “explores the exotic beauty, culture and adventure of Sarawak through the journey of Sir James Brooke whose real-life exploits inspired classic epics like Lord Jim, Apocalypse Now and The Man Who Would Be King,” producer Rob Allyn told The Borneo Post.

With plenty of historical drama and action, “To have peace, we must make war,” the film also stars Dominic Monaghan, Hannah New, and Josie Ho.

The Edge of the World will debut on-demand on June 21, 2021.
