LET ME IN
Chloë Grace Moretz In The Vampire Masterpiece

Sink your teeth into this one, PROVOKRs. For Movie of the Week, we bring you Matt Reeves’ 2010 horror film Let Me In starring Chloë Grace Moretz, Kodi Smit-McPhee, and Richard Jenkins.
The film is a perversion of what we deem a classic vampire movie, which is reasonable considering Let Me In came out at the height of the vampire romance fanaticism. (Think Twilight, True Blood, and The Vampire Diaries.) Let Me In is a more intimate film, but not in the way of romance.
It follows two pre-teens, played by Moretz and Smit-McPhee, who strike up a friendship. It’s one that’s rooted in mutual loneliness, making the film take a more somber tone and direction. It’s eerie and beautiful while also being downright terrifying.

A.O. Scott of The New York Times wrote this at the time: “The story holds a few surprises, but what makes Let Me In so eerily fascinating is the mood it creates. It is at once artful and unpretentious, more interested in intimacy and implication than in easy scares or slick effects.”

The film is based on the Swedish film Let The Right One In, dubbed one of the best vampire films of all time. Before Let Me In, Reeves directed the found footage horror film Cloverfield, but he’s about to find more success as he directs Robert Pattinson in The Batman. So, PROVOKRs, there are many reasons you should check out this film for free this week.
