LUPITA NYONG’O SLAYS
What's Next In 2020?

Lupita Nyong’o first achieved critical acclaim with her breakout role in Steve McQueen’s 12 Years a Slave. Besides recognition, she won an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress. Since then, Nyong’o has been busy with not just one hit franchise, but two. Nyong’o can be seen as Maz Kanata in the new Star Wars trilogy and also as T’Challa’s love interest Nakia in Black Panther . She’s expected to be in the sequel, too.
This year, Nyong’o starred in Jordan Peele’s sophomore feature film, the doppelganger-horror movie, Us. Out of respect to those who still haven’t seen the film, we won’t reveal any spoilers, except to say it has some crazy twists and turns. She also starred in the lesser known zombie-comedy Little Monsters. In it, Nyong’o plays a kindergarten teacher who teams up with the uncle of a student. Their mission is to save the children from zombies. Of course, her biggest film this year is the final installment of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. Nyong’o reprises her role as Maz in the ultimate battle between good and evil. Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker hits theaters on December 20, 2019.
With such a robust body of work, we wonder what’s next for Nyong’o? In addition to a return to the Black Panther sequel, Nyong’o recently wrapped 355, a movie about female spies. Go, girl power! She also has a television series in the works. It’s Americanah and is based on Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie’s novel of the same name. The show follows Ifemelu (Nyong’o) who emigrates to the USA from Nigeria, but the man she loves ends up in London. She and her Black Panther co-star, Danai Gurira, co-created the project. HBO Max gave it a straight-to-series order.
While no release dates have been announced for any of her new projects, it’s safe to say she will continue to impress us with strong performances.
