When McGreggor’s character, poet Christian, walks into the Moulin Rouge, he spots Kidman’s character Satine, a courtesan and performer at the club. From there, they partake in a passionate affair. And who wouldn’t be enamored by Kidman and that wispy voice.
Like all Baz Luhrmann productions, the over-the-top set design reigns supreme. You definitely can’t take your eyes off the glitz and glamour — including those dazzling outfits that accentuate all the right places. The 2001 film debuted music from pop icon Christina Aguilera.
Moulin Rouge was nominated for eight Oscars, including Best Picture and Best Actress. It won two for set design and costuming. The movie has since been adapted into a stage play of the same name.
