The Oscar Race 2018
A Short Compilation For Your Consideration

To say that the Oscars will be a tight race this year is an understatement. Without a shoe-in like last year’s La La Land (which was, in hindsight, a very ill-fitting shoe-in, ultimately), there is no one film that everyone is getting behind. In a funny way, there truly is something for everyone this year.
In the video compilation above, the creators include a handful of the films that are likely to be nominated—tune in January 23rd for the final announcements. But it’s a glorious overview of many of the ones we’re loving right now.
Steven Spielberg‘s The Post, about a political uproar in the sacred halls of The Washington Post starring beloved actors Meryl Streep and Tom Hanks. Call Me By Your Name, a tender love story about a young man’s (Timothee Chalamet) first sexual encounter with a heartthrob hottie (Armie Hammer). Lady Bird, Greta Gerwig‘s semi-autobiographical coming-of-age film starring Saoirse Ronan and the spectacular Laurie Metcalfe. Three Billboards Outside of Ebbing, Missouri, one of the saddest comedies every made, about a woman’s clever revenge against a lame police force that has failed to find her daughter’s killer. Guillermo del Torro‘s The Shape of Water, a love story unlike any you’ve ever seen. The heartbreaking post-WWII drama, Mudbound, about a white family and black family in Jim Crow Mississippi, directed by Dee Rees. Dunkirk, about the British invasion of France during WWI, satisfies those who love history and a good war story, as does Darkest Hour, Gary Oldman‘s tour de force as the prickly PM of England during WWII, Winston Churchill. And finally, The Florida Project, with Willem Dafoe as the overseer of a group of rag-tag kids living in a cheap motel near Disneyland in Orlando, Fl.
See you March 4th for the Academy Awards!
