Pedro Almodóvar
PROVOKR picks his five sexiest films
That ageless provocateur from Spain, Pedro Almodóvar has a new film coming to theaters this December 21, Julieta (trailer, above), a passionate drama about a mother yearning to see her long-lost daughter once again. In honor of the new film, PROVOKR is including it in a sexiest quintet of Almodóvar gems, also featuring the four winning titles below.
Volver (2006)

Here’s another matriarchal melodrama from Almodóvar; this one stars the extravagant talents of Penélope Cruz, who was Oscar-nominated for it. Cruz plays a woman who returns to her late mother’s village only to discover that her mother is still alive and more than ready to listen to her tale of passion and woe.
Talk to Her (2002)

Two men tend to two dazzling women in comas: one looks after his exotic and remarkable girlfriend, a bullfighter who was gored in the ring (Rosario Flores, right); the other man, a nurse in the hospital, cares selflessly and sensuously for a ballet dancer who has remained unconscious for years (Leonor Watling, left).
Tie Me Up! Tie Me Down! (1989)

In this wacky Almodóvar psychosexual thriller, a former mental patient (Antonio Banderas, above top) kidnaps a porn star (Victoria Abril, above bottom) in order to persuade her to marry him. Can she resist? Can we?
Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown (1988)

Everybody’s chasing after someone else in this hilariously theatrical screwball comedy starring Carmen Maura, Antonio Banderas, Rossy de Palma and Julieta Serrano (above)—it’s the movie that truly exploded Almodóvar into international fame.
