Journey to the outer edges of our solar system with Brad Pitt in this upcoming science fiction film. Pitt stars as astronaut Roy McBride, who travels to the outer reaches of the galaxy in the hopes of finding his father Clifford McBride (Tommy Lee Jones), who went missing 30 years ago while on a doomed expedition. Of course, he ends up uncovering a mystery that threatens all of human existence.

Ad Astra was directed by James Gray, from a script he co-wrote with Ethan Gross. In addition to Brad Pitt and Tommy Lee Jones, Ad Astra stars Ruth Negga, Liv Tyler, Donald Sutherland, and Jamie Kennedy. The film had its world premiere to critical acclaim on August 29, 2019 at the Venice Film Festival. Pitt’s performance has been singled out by critics as being superb.

James Gray has compared the story of Ad Astra to Joseph Conrad’s Heart of Darkness, which might tell you a few things about what to expect going into this film. He also said he wanted to depict the most accurate portrayal of space travel ever seen on screen. The anxiety-inducing trailer certainly stirs up feelings of impending doom. Serious shout-out to that claustrophobic sound design.
