From Justin Simien, the man who brought us Dear White People, comes the Faustian horror-comedy, Bad Hair. It’s 1989, and an ambitious young woman named Anna Bludso (Elle Lorraine), wants to make it in the world of music television. There is just one issue; she is told that she does not have the right hairstyle to succeed. So, she strikes a bargain with a network executive who tells her to get a weave, and he’ll help her flourish. Unfortunately, her new ‘do appears to have a mind of its own.

The trailer shows us Anna, heading to a salon to get her weave. The stylist asks her if her head is tender, and she responds she’ll be fine as ominous music pulses in the background. The stylist tells Anna that “in some parts of India, a woman’s hair is her most prized possession.” Immediately things start to go wrong for Anna after she gets her new ‘do, with the strands taking on a life of their own and even cutting her finger. Her terrifying new hair doesn’t only seem to cause trouble for her, but wreaks havoc for those among her as well.
