Jillian Bell Takes The Lead in Sundance Darling
A New York City woman named Brittany, who is meandering through her late 20s without any real sense of direction, decides to take control of her life through running, eventually deciding to run the NYC marathon (culminating in the use of footage from the actual NYC marathon). Along her journey she makes new friends and develops a fledgling romance with another hapless late 20-something with whom she dog sits. While that plot-line alone is not a new concept, from the trailer the movie does look like it is going to set itself apart from other movies of its sort. Early reviews for the film has so far, been incredibly positive.
Brittany Runs a Marathon was written and directed by Paul Downs Colaizzo, marking his directorial debut. The film was apparently based on the life of Colaizzo’s best friend, a woman named Brittany. It stars Jillian Bell, in her first starring role, as the titular Brittany. Starring alongside Bell are a host of known character actors and improv comedy performers relatively new to the screen including Michaela Watkins, Utkarsh Ambudkar, Lil Rel Howery, and Micah Stock.
Brittany Runs a Marathon premiered at the Sundance Film Festival on January 28, 2019. It is scheduled to be released August 23, 2019 by Amazon Studios.
