PROVOKR Pick: Little Woods

Lily James and Tessa Thompson are powerful and moving in their roles as sisters faced with their mother’s home foreclosure in the depths of the woods in North Dakota. It’s a modern day look at the harsh realities of a very broken healthcare system in our country. In their roles as Deb (Lily James) and Deb (Tessa Thompson), the characters portray quite perfectly two daughters left to face a lack of options. The two face uncertainties and a bleak future, with little means to offer them a way out of a dark and depressing reality. First-time filmmaker Nia DaCosta creates a cinematic success that combines many different film genres all into one: Thriller, Drama, Western and Film Noir all come together in this beautifully dark Little Woods.
