Christopher Nolan’s new movie Tenet follows a man known only as the Protagonist (John David Washington). The Protagonist is tasked with preventing World War III by using the codeword, Tenet. From the trailer, we learn that Tenet can be used to open good or bad doors. We’re not entirely sure what that means. Given that Tenet is considered a sort of spiritual follow-up to Inception, there’s a good chance you will still have questions after watching the film. The official synopsis of the film reads: Armed with only one word—Tenet—and fighting for the survival of the entire world, the Protagonist journeys through a twilight world of international espionage on a mission that will unfold in something beyond real-time. Not time travel. Inversion.

Like Inception, Tenet is sure to invite interpretations and crazy fan theories that people will be writing about for years to come. When you see it, be sure to pay very close attention to everything going on, if you miss even the tiniest detail, you might miss a world of information. It may be a movie that requires multiple viewings to understand or we may never fully get it. That can still be fun, though.

Warner Bros. initially planned to release Tenet on July 17, 2020, on IMAX. As you may have guessed, that release was pushed back due to the coronavirus. It was rescheduled to July 31 and then to August 12. After a third delay, it was released in a handful of countries on August 26. And it screened in Australia and South Korea on August 22 and 23. In addition to Washington, Tenet has a stellar cast that includes Robert Pattinson, Elizabeth Debicki, Michael Caine, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Clémence Poésy, Himesh Patel, Martin Donovan and Kenneth Branagh.

Tenet will open in select American cities on September 3, 2020.
