In 1996 a supernatural horror film called The Craft was released. The movie followed Sarah (Robin Tunney), the new student at a Los Angeles, high school who gets taken in by a trio of wannabe witches (Fairuza Balk, Neve Campbell, and Rachel True). As a group of four, they can awaken their dormant powers, which leads to disastrous results. Although the movie got mixed reviews from critics, it proved to be a sleeper hit at the box office. Teen girls and young women flocked to see the campy, feminist flick. Now, 24 years after its release, we are getting a stand-alone sequel: The Craft: Legacy.

Like the first film, The Craft: Legacy will follow a new girl who joins a trio of girls, and together they form a witch’s coven. This time, the new girl is Lily (Cailee Spaeny). She moves to a new town with her mother, Eunice (Michelle Monaghan), to live with her stepfather (David Duchovny) and his sons (Nicholas Galitzine, Charles Vandervaart, and Julian Grey). After getting her period in class, she is taken in by Tabby (Lovie Simone), Lourdes (Zoey Luna), and Frankie (Gideon Adlon) from the aspiring coven. Together, they discover just how strong their powers are.

The movie will act as a stand-alone sequel to 1996’s The Craft, so while it will pay homage to its predecessor, the first movie’s characters and events will not come into play here. None of the actors from the original will reprise their roles or play new characters. However, the girls will have a picture of Fairuza Balk’s Nancy from the original film. Additionally, they will play the “light as a feather, stiff as a board” game. And of course, the famous line “we are the weirdos, mister” will also be uttered. The Craft: Legacy was written and directed by Zoe Lister-Jones (Life in Pieces), who hired women to head almost all of the film’s departments.
