PROVOKR PICK: THE GENTLEMEN

Matthew McConaughey Gets Lit + New Featurette

BY: Amanda Jane Stern

In Guy Ritchie’s newest movie, The Gentlemen, Matthew McConaughey stars as Mickey Pearson, an American expat living in England. Pearson has an unusual job. He runs a very profitable marijuana empire, but he wants to retire and settle down with his girlfriend Rosalind (Michelle Dockery). The movie follows the hijinks and schemes that ensue when Pearson tries to sell off his empire to Oklahoma billionaire, Matthew Berger (Jeremy Strong).

Ritchie’s fans can be sure The Gentlemen contains the elements that make his films hits. What does that mean?  Quick jump-cut action sequences, a cast of colorful characters speaking highly stylized dialogue and circular, interconnected plot points that are the hallmarks of Ritchie’s work. While the movie is an action-crime film, be prepared to laugh a lot. And of course, all of his films use filtered overlays to create a particular atmosphere.

A just-released behind-the-scenes featurette offers a glimpse into The Gentlemen. It includes interviews with cast members and this is one fantastic cast. In addition to McConaughey, Dockery and Strong, The Gentlemen also features Charlie Hunnam, Colin Farrell, Henry Golding and Hugh Grant. It is an A-list group of stars.

See The Gentlemen, in theaters, on January 24, 2020. But first, check out the featurette right here.
