Charlize Theron Likes It Really Rough
Charlize Theron stars in The Old Guard as Andy/Andromache of Scythia, the leader of an immortal group of mercenaries who have the power of self-healing. They have been alive for thousands of years and work in the shadows to save humanity. However, with the advent of modern technology, they find it harder to keep themselves hidden. That all comes to a head when government worker Copley (Chiwetel Ejiofor) discovers their secret. Copley resolves to track them down and run tests to figure out what makes them immortal, hoping to use their DNA to create an army of super-soldiers. We all know, super soldiers are never a good idea.
Thrust into a battle to protect themselves, Andy, along with the rest of her team, and with brand new member Nile Freeman (Kiki Layne), must do whatever they can to escape Copley’s grasp. Not too long ago, we covered the trailer for this action-packed film. The trailer introduces us to Andy and her team of mercenaries and we learn a bit about their centuries-old backstory. We then meet Copley and his evil plans.
The movie was written by Greg Rucka and directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood (Love & Basketball). The plot is from the comic book of the same name. In addition to Theron, Ejiofor and Layne, it stars Matthias Schoenaerts, Livre Marwan Kenzari and Luca Marinelli.
