ROBIN WRIGHT
Princess Bride No More

Robin Wright will forever hold a soft spot in our hearts for her role as Princess Buttercup in Rob Reiner’s 1987 adaptation of William Goldman’s The Princess Bride. But it’s been over three decades since Wright’s first starring role, and while she will always be associated with that most quotable of movies, she has had a long and illustrious career in the years since. She went on to captivate audiences as Jenny in Robert Zemeckis’s Forrest Gump, and while tha movie is no longer looked upon as favorably as it once was, there’s no denying people still talk a lot about it. It was with her role as the scheming, ice-cold Claire Underwood in Netflix’s House of Cards that Wright was able to break away from the kinds of romantic roles she was known for, and show us a more machiavellian side. It was also on the set of House of Cards where Wright decided to branch into a new venture, directing. Overall, Wright ended up directing ten episodes of the political show, and it looks like she has no intention of stopping anytime soon.

This past year, Wright made her feature film directorial debut with the survival drama Land. The movie follows a grieving woman named Edee Mathis (Wright), who decides to pack up and move off grid in Wyoming. After being brought back from the brink of death by a local hunter, (Demián Bichir), the closest thing she has to a neighbor, she has to learn to find a new way to move forward with her life. Land is scheduled to have its world premiere at the 2021 Sundance Film Festival before getting a theatrical release on February 12, 2021. Based on the trailer alone, this movie definitely looks like it could end up a major awards contender. It looks like Wright will be following up Land with another directing project, Together Now. This compilation film will feature eight different vignettes, each directed by a different woman director.
Wright’s acting career also shows no signs of slowing down. In addition to starring in Land, she also reprised her role as Antiope from 2017’s Wonder Woman in the film’s sequel Wonder Woman 1984. She will be playing Antiope yet again in the upcoming Snyder Cut (also known as Zack Snyder’s Justice LeagueI.)
