Ruby Rose, the Australian model turned actress’ breakthrough came in 2015 as Litchfield inmate Stella Carlin on Season 3 of the Netflix TV series Orange is the New Black.

She followed up that role with supporting roles in major films, including John Wick: Chapter 2, the musical-comedy Pitch Perfect 3, and big shark movie The Meg.

Then Rose made history with her casting Kate Kane/Batwoman on the CW. Her Batwoman was the first openly lesbian character to lead a superhero TV show, and to be portrayed by a lesbian actress. In addition, she portrayed the character across the CW superhero series Arrow, Supergirl, and the Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover event.

However, Rose bowed out of the role after the first season. After injuring herself on set of Batwoman she decided the gruelling hours on set required to make a network tv show, coupled with the physical requirements were too much for her.

Now that she’s broken out of the DC Television Universe, Rose has a slew of new films on the horizon. Let’s take a look at some of her upcoming projects for the big screen.

Vanquish

In this action thriller, Rose portrays Victoria, a former Moscow-based Russian drug courrier. She has put that past behind her until villainous ex-cop, Damon (Morgan Freeman), holds her daughter hostage.

Hoping on a motorcycle, and wearing a symbolic white leather jacket, she has only 1 night to make 5 pickups. But she leans on a network of allies to subvert the ex-cop’s dangerous plan —a group that includes Patrick Muldoon’s (of 1990s TV series Melrose Place) Agent Monroe.

This film is helmed by Director/Writer George Gallo (the story writer of Michael Bay’s Bad Boys, and a screenwriter of the late-1980s Robert De Niro vehicle Midnight Run).

It is currently set for a digital and on-demand April 23, 2021 release date.

Back in January 2021, it was announced that Rose replaced actor Elliot page in the project in the role of Parker for this battle-of-the-sexes esports comedy.

Parker is a college student with an esports scholarship, but quits the team after sexism and gaslighting from her male teammates. To keep heer scholarship, she forms a new all-female identifying team and goes head-to-head against the men at the state semi-finals.

The ensemble ncludes Paris Berelc (of the Netflix sitcom Alexa & Katie) as Lee, and Hari Nef (of the Amazon’s TV series Transparent, and a lead in director Sam Levinson’s black-comedy thriller Assassination Nation) as Sloane, and The Kissing Booth 2’s Taylor Zakhar Perez as Dustin.

The film is from Director Kyle Newman (of Fanboys, and the 2015 action comedy Barely Lethal), and was produced by BuzzFeed Studios. Principal photography wrapped back in February 2021, and the film secured a deal with Lionsgate for distribution. The two studios are teaming up for a series of stand-alone films meant to appeal to millennials and Gen-Z audiences.

1UP  is currently listed in post-production. But no film release date has yet been announced.

The Legitimate Wiseguy

Again Rose will team-up with Director George Gallo —and actor Patrick Muldoon— for this period Gangster drama.

Rose is Lisa in this gangster drama about a mob enforcer sponsoring an up-and-coming actor.

It is based on the true story of Anthony Spilotro aka “Tony the Ant,” a 1970s/80s Las Vegas mob enforcer. Joe Pesci’s character of Nicky Santoro in Martin Scorsese’s 1995 crime epic Casino was also based on Anthony Spilotro.

Actors Harvey Keitel and Emile Hirsch are the father-son duo Nick Celozzi Sr. and Jr.

This film is currently in pre-production, and is scheduled to start principal photography this spring.
