The first planned cinematic release when theaters reopen is now on the schedule. Unhinged, starring Academy Award winner-Russell Crowe (A Beautiful Mind, Gladiator) is slated to open July 1, 2020. The film, written by Carl Ellsworth and directed by Derrick Borte, is a psychological thriller about road rage. Many are, of course, wondering whether theaters will be operating by early July. Given that Los Angeles County extended its shutdown through July and New York City has, too, there is a good chance this project could be delayed or moved to a digital release only. Whether or not it happens, the distributors of Unhinged (Solstice Studios) have generated a lot of interest in this title, that otherwise might have opened to little fanfare. While we wait to find out Unhinged’s fate, let’s take a look at it.

Rachel (Caren Pistorius) is running late for work one day and accidentally cuts off another driver. That motorist happens to be a character known only as The Man (Crowe) and The Man is not happy. He feels disgruntled and invisible in his life and decides to take revenge on Rachel for her perceived slight. Soon, Rachel and her friends and family become the target of a madman. Fans of CBS’ Criminal Minds may remember the season 4 episode “Normal,” which follows a man whose road rage spurs him on to commit murder.

In addition to Crowe and Pistorius, Unhinged stars Jimmi Simpson, Gabriel Bateman and Michael Papajohn. While we await this film’s release, theatrical, or otherwise, PROVOKR invites you to watch the trailer.
