SHERLOCK HOLMES 3 In SF
Robert Downey, Jude Law, Jared Harris +

It’s been ten years since Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows was in theaters. Since then, Robert Downey Jr, the star of this film and the ones that preceded it, has been busy starring in this little thing called the Marvel Cinematic Universe and serving as producer for several productions. He’s now finished with the MCU and free to return as Sherlock Holmes in Sherlock Holmes 3.

But, a lot has changed since 2011. People now prefer streaming and digital purchases over DVDs and CDs, Blockbuster is out of business (kind of), and there have been three significant adaptations of Sherlock Holmes. In 2012, the series Elementary premiered on CBS and wrapped in 2019. In 2015, Ian McKellen starred in the film Mr. Holmes. Finally, in 2018, John C. Reilly and Will Ferrell released the critically panned Holmes and Watson.
Sherlock Holmes 3 will bring back actors from the early movies. Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law will reprise their roles as Sherlock Holmes and Dr. John Watson. Other returning actors include Noomi Rapace as Madam Simza Heron, Kelly Reilly as Mary Morstan, and Jared Harris as James Moriarty. Moriarty will return from the dead as he faked his demise in Sherlock Holmes: A Game Of Shadows. Michael Fassbender is also rumored to be playing the film’s antagonist, Sebastian Moran.

For this film, Guy Ritchie will not be the director, and Dexter Fletcher will replace him. Fletcher directed Bohemian Rhapsody and Rocketman. Another meaningful change is the location. Ideally, you would want a Sherlock Holmes movie set in London. Well, this was the case for the first two films, but the third? Holmes and Watson are going to California, specifically San Francisco. Maybe the change was for variety, or it could be the fat tax break from California.
Sherlock Holmes 3 has a December release date. Until then, if you’re fiending for anything Sherlock Holmes, you could rewatch the first two films or start watching Elementary.
